A single blog post as I and some other folks blog could reference several dozen links - link wrapups, and weeknotes could end up sending up to 3 dozen links. But the odds a plurality would be to http://micro.blog sites is low. But yes, definitely something to consider throttling.

Okay, I’ve tracked it down through my records of the source/target webmentions. Here’s an example post and you can see the u-in-reply-to pointed to someone’s Micro.blog-hosted blog. Hi folks! Interesting spam on http://Micro.blog today that I wanted to mention in case it becomes widespread… It appears someone created a hosted site with ChatGPT Sites that sent hundreds of webmentions out. Unfortunately I’m an idiot and cleared out all the spam before confirming the details, so it’s possible it wasn’t webmention.

oh, sorry, if the question wasn't "is paying ok" but "are website platforms ok," then...also yes! eg https://micro.blog/ is one very indieweb-friendly host that we like and recommend here, and it's very much one of those

That's really it. You don't own your permalinks on Neocities or bearblog or even http://micro.blog. Thought the latter two do commit to doing redirects for you which is a nice touch / improvement over past content hosting sites

http://Micro.blog also enables such customizations and themes but you won't get Manton himself claiming that your microblog site is an indieweb site. Because he's lived through those losses
