[@Larvitz] Ever heard of Gemini? It's a lightweight internet protocol between Gopher and the Web - no JavaScript, no cookies, no tracking, just text and links over TLS.... (https://burningboard.net/@Larvitz/115752366426348566)

[@qsky] "When I first visited Gopher, I came looking for a nostalgic trip to the internet of yesteryear. However, what I found was a community driven by DIY aesthetics and self-expression."... (https://indieweb.social/@qsky/115578435082402319)

yeah! I browsed some fun Gemini sites, I think [Jo] was the first person I knew who had Gemini sites going and there was a spirit of Tilde/GeoCities fun to it. And I had a comment in Mastodon from someone hoping to do their website in such a way that they could also publish it as Gemini and Gopher.

Gemini has incredibly minimal markup akin to Gopher and last I looked was pretty hostile to notions about storing data, cookies, metadata (like, the stuff that makes making applications of websites possible), and in the conversation they say http is a bad protocol.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(protocol) is like... trying to reinvent the web as if it were Gopher.

[@lfa] A nice person translated my article about Gopher: "Gopher, A Simple Alternative To The Bloatware Of The Web" to french. You can see it at linuxfr.org... (https://hostux.social/@lfa/115145554739417195)
