I really dislike the idea of a TOS for indieweb sites as it seems like a bad adoption of something very corporate and very legalese framed, instead of something actually independent and frankly community positive.

Another positive thing from this article is that the combination of IndieWebify.me and the [IndieMark] "Levels" helped provide a roadmap of sorts that gave a relatively direct path to follow, a sense of achievement ("*Level 2 IndieWeb citizen*"), and a clear idea of next steps: "What I’m currently missing is a way of having IndieWeb conversations (IndieWeb level 3, according to IndieWebify.me)"

campegg, sorta. The whole "the metaverse was a cautionary Torment Nexus tale" is a bit of a retcon. At the time (1992), the web was just a random prototype hack, and the internet was only used (primarily) by text nerds (myself included). At the time (again, 1992), the "metaverse" was seen as a more accessible view of the internet that would be much easier (UX) for lots of people to use, i.e. a positive thing

I would ask them if they could reframe “not be always online” as a positive condition instead

indeed that message from jay made me more optimistic. agreed snarfed about [benatwork]’s tweet being a bit generous, however I wonder if that kind of public generosity also helps as a form of positive inclusion nudging. maybe that's a good way to build bridges from a social perspective?

if/when we do another IWS in Portland, even though it's far fewer people than XOXO, it may be worth considering doing something similar to what XOXO did to at least have a net positive local impact

btw, speaking of Portland, I was reading this, and reminded of how XOXO conference/fest several years ago put in an option for attendees to donate towards local homeless assistance to try to have a positive impact on improving local conditions especially in and around the XOXO main conference area: https://apnews.com/article/covid-business-health-ted-wheeler-poverty-edb884d8bf98e45b16372c1c8b7182e7
