Twitter as “client” limits you to their constraints like 280 chars which is lower than micro.blog, or Mastodon

↩️ Join us! (Again?) You already have the domain! https://indieweb.org/ Eg https://micro.blog/ is hosted, as easy as Twitter to use, supports domains, cross posts here, fully indieweb compatible, etc.

how many active users does micro.blog have? I was just looking for a coarse denominator to put the 700 into context

Yeah, Micro.blog users tell me about this too. Why are there no posts on my account in Mastodon?

You could also have a “fake” hosted blog on Micro.blog, like micro.tantek.com or something like that, and then have t@micro.tantek.com. Might get a little weird.

got it, so I could have @ t @ micro.blog for example today, right now, and people could follow my posts that way

The change I made recently is to allow any account to have an whatever@micro.blog ActivityPub username. And if your domain is hosted on Micro.blog, it can also be you@yourdomain.com.

[tantek] For your first question, yes, you can use the Micro.blog ActivityPub feature and it will forward any of the feeds you have set in Micro.blog to your followers. There are some limitations, though, like it doesn’t know how to handle replies from your own site.

That Micro.blog warning is there because currently to rename the ActivityPub username, I have to delete it and create a new one. There may be a way to work around this in the future with new Mastodon features, but not totally sure yet.

I'm wondering if there's any downside to setting up @/t @micro.blog and then later trying to change it to @/tantek @tantek.com (ignore the "/" chars, there to stop Slack from over-auto-linking)
