tantek, I saw the alternate link (and relinked it) and it's still not working for me for some reason. Is there a privacy or audience setting on it perhaps?

That applies to the entire height of the page. Like jgmac1106_ said, you might want to alternate different background colors on sections, instead.

rel="alternate" is useful in conjuction with other properties. With lang it is a version in a differnet language. With type="application/atom+xml" it is an Atom feed etc...
