I typically think of unpublished as referring to drafts. While the work could make sense for removing content, I don't tend to use or interpret it that way.

Maybe unpublished is redundant, but maybe the nuance is helpful.

[tantek] I used "unpublished draft" to emphasise that despite having a URL, the post is not yet published as a full post on my site.

I wonder if there is an alternative/better term for the first meaning of "unpublished"

another meaning of "unpublished"' is in reference to an action taken "unpublish" after the fact, i.e. site X unpublished posts by author Y.

one meaning of "unpublished" is "has yet to be published", a kind (state?) of a draft, perhaps private or perhaps shared with folks using an unlisted URL

We have a lot of mentions of "unpublished" in our prior chats (https://indiechat.search.cweiske.de/?q=unpublished) and a few mentions on the wiki, however we don't have a page for it

Technically you already have "private" posts since WordPress has a notion of "unpublished" posts which are effectively private posts since only you can see them

I'm starting to see if I can shift my mindset about publishing from binary (unpublished / published, which is a bit of a strawman, since no one really does that, i.e. there's a timeline of incremental keystrokes even within "unpublished") to a blurry timeline spectrum from offline notes, online synced drafts, publicly viewable at a permalink, posts showing up on a home page, posts showing up in side-files, posts being federated,
