My latest thought is maybe when it's installed, there should be a setup process where the admin selects a unique, available path where they want the directory, then the plugin uses the API to create the pages and add all the shortcodes

I'm working on a WP directory-like plugin that will use shortcodes across several public WordPress pages like search -> search results -> directory listing permalink. Currently I'm hard-coding the links between these pages, but I'm wondering if there's a more dynamic way to do that. E.g. while I've been setting it up with /directory as the base page, maybe another site wants to install it at /my-directory.
