  • mahboubine, a few things. Your site should be setup to bring you joy. If something is not bringing you joy, it's ok to leave it out. Second, maintaining Webmentions within WordPress is an extra hassle, even for folks familiar with WordPress, so if displaying Webmentions / cross-site interactions are a goal, then choose something other than WordPress, unless tinkering with WordPress is a hobby that brings you joy.

  • we also took a ton of inspo from wedding website builders like zola and theknot. weddings are the only time when friends of mine who ordinarily would *never* be able to put a website on the internet actually do it. and I'd argue it's because those are "single-purpose" website builders, whereas Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress, and the like are "general purpose" site builders. the single-purpose ones are 10x easier.

Luckily, I guess that's either no longer an option or not something I'd be interested in 😄 But between Fediverse tech (inc. WordPress, Threads etc.), ATProto, and IndieWeb, if the default is broader distribution then I do think context collapse is hard to justify as an argument
