  • ↩️ RSS is dope but I think since it requires so much extra tooling, it's hard to work with. I've leaned on using microformats2 to give my HTML pages the same RSS-y vibes but without having to make a separate page. So much easier IMO. https://microformats.io/ + https://indieweb.org/h-feed

  • I think part of that problem is that consuming HTML is hard. The mf2 parser makes it easier by narrowing down what HTML you have to deal with, but as soon as e-* properties are involved, consumers have to worry about potentially non-trivial transformations if they want to work with it

  • I'm continuing to merge those PRs. The main issue I see with this serial PR strategy is that each subsequent PR's diff contains all the past ones, so it's really difficult to review. There's no conflicts with main branch, so they can be merged, but it's just hard to tell what's actually changed in the individual PR.

  • https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2022/12/19/progress-on-the-block-protocol/ I really want to like the idea of the “Block Protocol” but that this entire post never once mentioned microformats makes it nearly impossible for me to take it seriously. A “protocol“ that doesn’t leverage or even mention prior art? Hard pass.

  • adminhelp guys I would need the Wiki source codes for the main english pages to be able to translate them as they are not editable anymore (maybe protected from admin?). How can I get that? (It's very hard to translate pages without having the original source code, as you have to template everything from the scratch which is waste of time).

  • hey Denver, thanks for asking questions - this is the right place to do it - but it's hard for me to follow your examples line by line. would be eaier if you made a post, or a temporary section on your indieweb wiki profile, to compare your proposals & support your question

  • it's going to be a hard one to "get right", as the way timezones work in vcard/ical is very weird, and timezones as a whole are an iffy thing to denote (quite the disconnect between complexity, automated processing ability, actually representing what a user would want to show/display or already does on their homepage, and actually representing something useful to parse and do something with)

  • But if we are indeed talking about writing stuff like ical/vcard entries in plain readable text I was always fan of reStructuredText interpreted text and directives. The goal of rST, driven by the hard to extend nature of old ST, was to have as much as possible forward compatibility and extension points if we want to put in structured data or other features.

  • Zegnat meant to say: http://microformats.org/wiki/chat-brainstorming would probably be the closest discussed format, but as omarhuanca seems to have karaoke lyrics and needs start and end timings for the lines it is a bit hard. If you have any idea of prior discussions, tantek, much appreciated.
