I remember publishers could add links in their headers for explicit feeds <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Blog Feed" href="http://example.com/feed/" /> that most RSS readers respected (or at least looked for), but the idea of post discovery is certainly much simpler.

from https://jsonfeed.org/mappingrssandatom "link with rel="alternate" maps to url in JSON. If rel="related" is used for links to an external site, in JSON Feed those map to external_url."

jacky: sure, rel=alternate hreflang=XX is a general recommendation. after talking it through with Zegnat a bit I think I'd go towards having no link in the mf2, even if that makes some consuming cases harder

it's more expensive, but I also feel like "one type url and include rel-alternate Link headers if you want to point to other variants" would probably be more reliable

I guess another useful question: there’s `<link rel="alternate">` to provide feed discovery for Atom and RSS. Is there also a mechanism for the same with `h-feed`? Because if so I am totally fine with just making my `h-feed` another template.

That may be more a question for the feedreader than for you. If you have your rel=alternate all set up as on that page, I do not believe there is any more you can do locally.

tantek: rel-alternate for ics sgtm. and my latest thinking on placement after working with some client is having the "Add to Calendar" beside the event date

swentel - I think if you put rel="alternate" on the link to your h-feed page then it may be discoverable. I believe rel=feed was deprecated (even dropped by WHATWG HTML for lack of interest / implementations)

!tell schmarty I think the rel-alternate link for feeds is broken on your tag pages, had to manually feed it to my reader because of some misplaced quotes (<3 eternal caturday)

[tantek] one catch with rel-alternate for h-feed is that unlike RSS and Atom, we don't have a mime type for h-feed, just text/html, so we can't easily distinguish between h-feed and non-h-feed HTML rel-alternates
