I keep seeing people saying bridgy should be opt-in, but what kind of ways chould be used to allow people to opt-in?

really curious what it is about Bluesky that is drawing people in. not having used the UI yet myself (though with the Bridgy POSSE/backfeed support I'm prioritizing that above Threads POSSE I think) I admit I don't have any direct experience that explains it

[hcommons.social/@ryanrandall] Impressive to see the person behind #Bridgy somehow deciding that "opt-out" could somehow be a good approach to anything involving the Fediverse (https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/835)…... (https://hcommons.social/@ryanrandall/111921754765348490)

has anyone written a response to this or related posts that debunks the whole collapsing blaming webmentions/pingbacks together, or everything being Bridgy backfeed's fault or ... (so many other mistaken conclusions in this post) https://brainbaking.com/post/2023/05/why-i-retired-my-webmention-server/

this caught my eye in particular: "Other Fediverse software may show all of your replies on the Home feed, no matter who the posts are replies to." <-- presumably Bridgy Fed (and users thereof) count as "Other Fediverse software"

in the example in the issue, better to return an error quickly from Bridgy rather than try to do any intelligent "cleanup"

[snarfed] consider that clients of Bridgy backfeed depend on the opposite behavior, to consider the parsed u-url (which points to the original) over the source permalink u-url (of the synthetic h-entry on http://brid.gy)

obviously with "moderate people not code," I think that expectation needs to evolve to focus on people and communities, not networks, and if Bridgy Fed encourages that evolution, I don't entirely feel bad about that
