My own parser supports both HTMLDocument and DOMDocument. The only complexities are that XPath queries might or might not need namespace prefixes depending upon the input (one has to check the namespace of the document element, not rely on the class), and that the new DOM is closer to spec (getAttribute() returns null if the attribute does not exist, for example). Takes a bit of work, but nothing major.

valerieflynn: you might well find a hosting provider you like that'll manage your self-hosted install for you (i.e. take care of the database, PHP upgrades and so on), as an alternative to wordpress.com (I really *don't* recommend WPEngine…) WP is pretty easy to setup and look when you're familiar with managing web servers, but that assumes a lot of sysadmin knowledge (you want to feel reasonably confident about security
