I might give that a whirl. I might lose some abilities that a native Drupal project might offer, but it might be good enough for me. And might be a lot easier than trying to fix the module that exists.

For others new to this discussion, it's how to get a subscribeable (sp?) calendar on a members only community website. It's arguably not indieweb, since it's not for my personal use. More like indieweb adjacent, in that it's an attempt to use indieweb principles at a small multi-user stage.

I've been looking through the drupal date_ical module. I think I've found one place where maybe I can fix the location to work better (for me, at least). But I don't know how much time I want to spend on it, given it's apparent limitations. This might not be the right place for this conversation, in which case I'm happy to take it to a private chat or email or whatever.
