If you are on existing silos, then yes, the point is to ALWAYS* post first on your personal site, and then post a copy to the silo. This does not equate to "post everything on your personal site to THAT silo" and I'm not sure how people seemingly misinterpret POSSE like this. * = with notable exceptions where it's hard (Swarm, IG) or there's value add in what the silo does (Strava).

Instagram had an API and I had it all working, to sync from them. Then they migrated it over to Facebook API and I *could not fathom it.* It seemed like you needed a business IG account. So I just stopped posting there.

Yeah, it's a spectrum and neither philosophy works perfectly. I *used* to use Instagram to publish my photos, then syndicate *back* to my website, but since they changed the API access, I just no longer post to Instagram, because getting *my* data out is too difficult.
