i really wish this discord bridge worked better too. it joins random discord users to IRC, but then hits a connection limit, so the rest get routed through the main IWDiscord bot

Yeah, IRC is the "canonical" chat which we bridge other platforms into and archive from, so no requirement to use Slack or Discord

Matrix would be ideal. I really dislike the Discord bridge (and discord in general, to be fair) but enjoy the slack one!

oh okay, that's interesting. Just testing the Discord bridge, I guess it pulls the root account name (or whatever they call that now) rather than either the username or the instance-specific name. good to know 😄

If we have an IRC bridge, spam is a bigger problem. Discord, for example, has advanced moderation tools that build specifically for that.
