follow up on my downtime problem: [LewisCowles] mentioned the cache idea as well, but for some reason, I hadn't seen the nginx option `proxy_cache_use_stale` before. The solution is rather simple: spin up a $5 digitalocean server with nginx, configure nginx to be a caching proxy towards my backend and allow that stale option on. Preliminary tests are promising. I'm wondering though if any of the cloud providers are providing a service

can you use something like NGINX + geoIP database to "guess" and pass-down state in headers, or pass an explicit location string when asking about weather?

Hmm, you may be right that nginx can’t do that. Still would have been nice to ship the nginx config anyway ;) Rather than link to one on nginx.com that may or may not get updated

is it possible to config nginx with .htaccess-like file? I thought it could only be configurated with general config files, not in website folders

Surprised Drupal ships with an IIS config but not nginx config, though.

But it is also the htaccess file that blocks access to a lot of that code. Which made me hope there was a similar config file available for nginx
