[manton] exactly. MetaWeblog API (still interoperably supported by many clients & servers!), AtomPub (never got well adopted, does anyone support it?), Micropub, And yes even ActivityPub.

A micropub client should show you a link preview of any links and then allow you to edit those, and if you do then sends the edited version to the server as an h-cite, which the server should respect instead of doing its own link preview extraction & display logic

capjamesg[d] the short answer is that the microsub+micropub client should at least cache the action the user took (like) and display it. The longer answer is that presumable the microsub server is subscribed to all the users posts, including likes, so they should be available to the client to integrate into the display of posts
