  • Hey, all. Got to indieweb.org from a YouTube video about getting out of the attention economy corporate web (i.e., AWS, Google Cloud, etc.). I like the ideals, but it all feels a little philosophical and abstract -- even after reading quite a bit of the website. I'm also not a developer so it feels like a lot doesn't apply to me? But I'm curious if there are quick primers you'd recommend?

  • Seems a little better now. Before I was getting 10+ second page load times.

  • I'm also fluent in German and a translator, so asked among translators but got no responses, weirdly. I'm not sure how often localisers will actually include soft hyphens in their work when instructed to. Sometimes it is necessary with long technical terms.

  • ah, that's not a bad idea for the columns actually... good point, thanks. It may also reduce the amount of testing and adjusting that's been necessary. (hyphens-auto is on, mind - and I've inserted soft hyphens everywhere)

  • Threw you off? Oh, you mean cos label-col at root level. Yeah, it's the label column width to be exact. But the variable is only ever used once. It's all just to make it easier to maintain. So anything that adjusts between languages can be adjusted with a single html language override on all the variables that have to change rather than a load of different elements. It makes it easier to maintain across languages.

  • I would like to output a list of categories along with how many pages include that category but will not go deep on it for right now.

  • Huh. Today I learned there's a category tree special page. Not sure how useful it is to the wiki with its current state. And our categories are flat. https://indieweb.org/Special:CategoryTree?target=Category%3AMusic&mode=all&namespaces=
