If you're doing pixel art, I might suggest doing so in SVG rather than HTML, as that will scale to any size you want

parent height in this case is how many pixels the parent represents, not necessarily the amount of pixels the image takes up on a screen or the actual size of the image

yeah, im going to have to let that one go. but im also having lots of issues with getting the font size right. it needs to scale with the rest of the site, but if i had a 10px tall font for example and wanted to scale it to an image with a height that represents 20px, making the font size half of that images height doesnt work. it worked for the

I wouldn't worry too much about half-pixel alignments (could be anti-aliasing or font smoothing or even how a browser defines a "pixel"), that way madness lies. The web isn't a fixed medium, so "pixel perfect" will always be a lie somewhere
