The move to Fediverse is dependent on the move to WordPress. The amount of work to transition Tumblr was a large and more broad swath of work than initially considered. Plus the move of Tumblr to WP also was slowing some of the fixes and completing feature work for Tumblr. The move of Tumblr to a WP backend isn’t stopped, it is just on hold.

[manton] so basically if we can convince MarsEdit and WordPress to support Micropub in core (i.e. without plugins) then no more need for clients or servers to support XML-RPC?

[snarfed] WordPress still supports XML-RPC too. When they added their custom JSON API, it wasn’t straightforward to switch native clients to it for various auth reasons. Not sure it’s better now.
