[snarfed] I’ve been trying to figure out why I can’t log into my site http://calebhearth.com on https://fed.brid.gy/web-site. Is it on a blocklist? Or maybe an API check is being made? I do a reverse proxy of some .well-known endpoints from my mastodon instance at http://pub.calebhearth.com. https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/blob/main/web.py#L653 seems to be where I’m getting caught, as that’s the flash I see.

that is true. I probably just recognize in them a bigger sense of authority or reliability, but it's really the other way around

this is something I could easily look up to have a bigger understanding of how exactly it works, but I wonder if there is a way to independently — or with a more long-term thinking company — set up your domain for a period of 5 years or something. but I suppose you can already do this with namecheap

perhaps 1/10th the costs of maintaining a phone number long term, which you presumably do

but I'm not really up to date on how domain politics work outside of using big services like namecheap, etc. — I'm mostly worried about the costs of maintaining a domain long term.

I didn't know it was possible to sign up on bluesky using a domain — that is interesting.
