  • I have had a blog since 2015, jacobatice.com. It used to be a self-hosted WordPress site but when my dad who pays for hosting switched to using WordPress.com for his site I converted it to a static site on GitLab Pages. Currently it's hosted on and generated by Netlify from a repo on GitLab.

  • The one hoop for WordPress users (speaking as one lol) is that a lot of us are so used to grabbing a plugin and boom it's done. I'd never messed around in the theme files or cpanel as much as I did, but it taught me so much, and I'm way more comfortable now. And I can't tell you how much I've learned so far. Which is amazing.

  • I can see how that can happen very easily. When I follow a tutorial I have no problem digging for info and replacements. I think that's part of owning your own site, gotta be willing to dig for things you need. I just don't think beginners are always willing to do it. I've worked with Wordpress for a long time, but jumping into webmentions and IndieAuth were new territory. Part of my problem is there was so much information I
