If its a core plugin, or the author has been paying attention and updated their code, by far and away the easiest thing to do is use composer - it'll manage versions as well as sorting out the naming for you

!tell [tantek] The Archive is a note app very like nvALT that has saved searches that are very useful when looking for specific tags. Not sure it could do dynamic sorting of tags, but until Ultra comes out I'm making a lot of use of it.

i store the authored date in the local time in my canonical storage (files), and index UTC *plus* the offset in the database for easier sorting/filtering
